Aiphone IX | IXG School Intercom, Classroom Communication & PA Systems
Aiphone IX | IXG School Intercom, Classroom Communication & PA Systems
Avenger Security Services / Security Tekton designs and installs Aiphone IX and IXG communication systems for schools throughout Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Hutto and Central Texas. For K-12 campuses, private schools, charter schools and multi-building education facilities, Aiphone provides a highly customizable IP communication environment that can combine classroom-to-office intercom, visitor entry, administrative master stations, paging, ceiling speakers, door release and supported mobile communication within one coordinated platform.
Aiphone IX | IXG is one of our preferred professional school communication solutions because it is not limited to a single front-door intercom. The system can be designed around the way the campus actually operates: classrooms, administrative offices, reception areas, visitor entrances, gates, common areas, portable buildings and multiple buildings can all be connected through a managed IP network.
See our Texas School Access Control Systems page for door security, credentials, lockdown-support considerations and visitor-entry planning.
One communication platform for classrooms, administration, visitor entry and paging
A traditional school intercom or PA system is often treated as a separate system from visitor entry and access control. Aiphone IX and IXG allow those functions to work together more naturally. Classroom stations can communicate with administrators, administrative master stations can initiate calls or pages, entrance stations can provide visitor communication, and approved door-release functions can be integrated where appropriate.
Aiphone describes school paging and intercom as complementary technologies: paging provides one-way announcements, while intercom adds two-way communication between classrooms, offices and entrances. For many campuses, the strongest design is a combination of both rather than choosing one or the other.
Recommended classroom-to-admin configuration
Classroom: Aiphone IX-RS-B + SP-2570N ceiling speaker
For a classroom, we recommend the Aiphone IX-RS-B as a dedicated room communication station. The IX-RS-B provides handset and hands-free communication and includes an 8-ohm, 2-watt external speaker output.
The Aiphone SP-2570N ceiling speaker can connect directly to that 8-ohm output using its direct 8-ohm tap. This is an effective classroom configuration because the ceiling speaker distributes voice more evenly throughout the room instead of requiring everyone to be close to the wall-mounted intercom station.
The classroom station can then communicate over the school network with administrative or security answering stations.
Administrative office: Aiphone IX-MV7-HB master station
The Aiphone IX-MV7-HB is well suited for the administrative office, reception desk or security office. It provides a 7-inch touchscreen, handset, hands-free communication, customizable speed-dial functions and paging capabilities within the IX / IXG environment.
In a school deployment, the IX-MV7 can function as the central answering point for classroom calls, visitor-entry calls and selected paging functions. Multiple master stations can be incorporated when the campus requires coverage at reception, administration, security or other staffed locations.
School-wide paging and PA integration
Aiphone IX and IXG can do more than point-to-point intercom calls. Supported master stations such as the IX-MV7 can generate pages to stations configured within the system. Stations with speakers can receive pages, allowing classroom and office stations to participate in a broader communication plan.
For larger paging requirements, the Aiphone architecture can also interface with external speakers or amplifiers. This gives schools flexibility to use localized classroom speakers, network paging endpoints, or larger distributed PA speaker systems depending on the facility.
On larger networks, Aiphone supports multicast paging. Multicast allows one page stream to be distributed efficiently to many endpoints instead of creating a separate stream for every station. Proper network configuration is important: switches and routing should support multicast, IGMP and the VLAN design required by the campus network.
Visitor entry and front-office communication
The school main entrance should be treated differently from a classroom. At a controlled visitor entrance, a video door station allows office staff to communicate with a visitor before releasing a secured entrance.
The Aiphone IX-DV IP video door station can be used at entrances where staff need video and two-way communication. The visitor call can route to an IX-MV7 master station or other authorized answering point. Door-release operation can then be coordinated with the access-control and locking hardware design.
This is especially useful for schools that maintain a secured front entrance during the school day but still need a professional workflow for parents, vendors, deliveries, contractors and other visitors.
Mobile and remote communication options
Where the school requires supported mobile communication or remote management, the Aiphone IXGW-TGW gateway can extend compatible IX / IXG functionality to Aiphone mobile applications and supported remote workflows.
Mobile functionality should be designed around the school's operating policy. Not every staff member needs remote door-release authority, and administrative permissions should be assigned intentionally.
A highly customizable school communication environment
The strength of Aiphone IX | IXG is its flexibility. A school does not need every station to perform the same job. The communication environment can be designed around the role of each location.
- Classrooms: IX-RS stations with optional ceiling speakers for teacher-to-office communication and paging.
- Administrative offices: IX-MV7 master stations for answering, direct calling, monitoring and paging.
- Main entrances: IX video door stations for visitor communication and controlled door-release workflows.
- Reception desks: Dedicated answering stations for normal visitor traffic.
- Security offices: Additional master stations or supported PC-based answering options.
- Common areas: Paging speakers or compatible stations for announcements.
- Portable buildings: Network-connected stations where infrastructure allows.
- Gates: Weather-resistant Aiphone stations integrated with gate access and approved release controls.
- Multi-building campuses: Networked communication between buildings and administrative locations.
Intercom, PA and access control should be designed together
A school communication system is most effective when the intercom, paging, visitor-entry and access-control workflows are coordinated. The person answering a visitor call should have the correct camera view, understand which door is being requested and have clearly defined authority to release that opening.
Security Tekton can coordinate Aiphone with commercial access-control systems, electrified locking hardware, door-position monitoring, request-to-exit devices, cameras, gates and other supported systems. See our Commercial Access Control Systems page for more information.
Why we recommend Aiphone IX | IXG for professional school installations
For schools that want a professional, serviceable system rather than a collection of unrelated devices, Aiphone provides a strong architecture. The IX and IXG families allow the communication system to grow with the campus and can support different station types, call paths, priority levels, paging groups, visitor entrances and administrative answering locations.
We especially like the ability to create a standardized classroom design and then repeat it throughout the school. A classroom can use the same IX-RS and ceiling-speaker arrangement, while administration operates from IX-MV7 master stations. Visitor entrances can then be added to the same communication environment instead of operating as an unrelated standalone intercom.
Network planning matters
Aiphone IX | IXG is an IP-based platform, so the network is part of the communication system. A proper installation should consider PoE capacity, switch locations, cable paths, VLAN design, multicast requirements, IGMP support, network security and backup power for critical network equipment.
For school paging in particular, multicast configuration can become important as the number of destinations grows. Security Tekton can coordinate the low-voltage and intercom scope with the school's IT team so communication requirements and network requirements are addressed together.
Daily communication and emergency operations
Aiphone can support everyday school operations such as classroom calls, office communication, visitor entry, direct station calls and paging. Those same capabilities can also support a school's broader emergency communication procedures.
However, an IX / IXG intercom and paging system should not automatically be treated as a substitute for a required fire alarm, emergency voice/alarm communication system or other code-mandated life-safety system. Fire alarm and emergency communication requirements must be evaluated separately based on the adopted codes, facility design and Authority Having Jurisdiction.
